The behavioral health crisis in our country today is severe. Of the 50 million adult Americans who are experiencing a mental illness, 55% receive no treatment. More than 2.7 million youth are experiencing severe major depression with 60% not receiving treatment. As healthcare providers, we have the unique opportunity to curb these alarming statistics by identifying and providing appropriate early interventions. Learn how Corewell Health built a standardized behavioral health screening infrastructure across 14 hospitals and more than 200 ambulatory sites for patients and employees. A deep dive into primary care’s implementation will highlight the power of standardization and change management for sustainability and compliance purposes. Attendees will discover how Corewell Health adapted suicidality protocols for the health setting to service an employee, peer-to-peer need. This toolkit was then adapted for use in middle and high schools to train staff and faculty on life-saving suicide prevention protocols for students in crisis. The speakers will present the journey to achieving a whole-person healing approach incorporating behavioral health screening and early interventions into a medical system using a standardized approach, and how protocols can be adapted for wider community use.
