Jennifer Smith currently serves as the Vice President, Clinical Services, Safety, and Risk Management at RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group. Prior to this position, she filled the position of Director, Quality & Safety for 6 years within the same medical group. In addition, Jennifer continues to actively see patients as a nurse practitioner in the family practice office where she started 18 years ago.
In her current role, Jennifer is responsible for ensuring the Medical Group staff functions at the top of their licensure to align with the RWJBarnabas Health High-Reliability Organizational goal of zero harm. Staff training and competencies are a vital part of her department’s responsibilities. She works in collaboration with operational leaders to optimize the daily functions of over 320 ambulatory, multispecialty practices. In her previous role, she was responsible for all of the Quality Programs for ambulatory provider practices. These programs included the Million Hearts Model, organizational oversight for 26 CMS Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) practices, the implementation of the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model in ten Medical Group Primary Care Practices, and managed numerous other performance-based incentive programs.
Jennifer completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She is currently in the process of completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
