Hospital medicine programs are continuing to evolve from the “relief force” for primary care physicians of the 1990s to a core asset for integrated medical groups and health systems. Equal or greater evolution in clinical practice and operational models is taking place across other hospital-based specialties (e.g., anesthesiology). Medical group and health system executives can leverage best practices in recruiting and leading high-performing teams that drive value across clinical and operational dimensions, including readmissions reduction, patient throughput and locum tenens utilization. Attendees will explore the foundational elements across successful hospital-based specialty programs, including clearly articulated enterprise goals, committed senior leadership, evidence-based processes, physician-led and patient-centered care, collaboration and a culture of continuous improvement and accountable performance management. Through examples across multiple specialties and an interactive discussion, attendees will learn innovative ways to recruit and build high-performing teams and to integrate evidence-based practices in their care delivery models.
