Since the pandemic started, staffing shortages have impacted nearly every corner of healthcare, from contact centers to operating rooms and front desks to back offices. Ambulatory leaders find themselves juggling wage inflation, recruitment challenges and diminishing service levels as they try to stay afloat with the staff they have. As executives, we don’t have a magic wand to fill the empty chairs, but we can guide our managers through this crisis. While our HR counterparts work on wage benchmarks and recruitment, as operators we should be implementing lean processes and thoughtful technology to do more with reduced staff. In this session, the speakers will discuss management and operational strategies to combat the labor shortage. This session will feature multiple case studies, ranging from an in-depth look at InterMed’s operational changes to combat their shortage of staff in Maine, to a variety of FQHCs, AMCs and medical groups across the country seeking patient access and ambulatory operations improvements with what was previously thought of as inadequate staffing. Join us and break out into small groups to discuss ideas about how to empower managers to do more with less.
