As patient and provider care delivery expectations evolve post-COVID-19, the University of Miami Health System (UHealth) has a unique opportunity to re-evaluate the allocation and utilization of one of our most precious and costly resources: ambulatory clinical space. This presentation will highlight UHealth’s process of ensuring that all stakeholders share a uniform understanding of room allocation versus utilization by type (e.g., clinical exam room, procedural, office/administrative, etc.); how we designed mechanisms to identify areas of opportunity; implemented a data-driven approach maximizing the utilization and efficiency of ambulatory clinical space; and improved access and productivity. Attendees will learn how the UHealth team used a cross-functional approach to establishing an actionable systematic framework for enhancing ambulatory clinical exam room utilization across a multi-campus academic medical center.
