The issue of burnout is very real and continues to threaten the well-being of healthcare workers, as well as their ability to care for patients. Recognizing the detrimental effects on their employees, many systems implement initiatives to reduce feelings of burnout, yet despite these efforts, distress and disengagement continue to increase. This prompts a question, could focusing on burnout be causing more burnout? Based on theories found in the fields of organization behavior, positive psychology, and the neurosciences, this session will explore the benefits of shifting the focus from burnout towards rebuilding a sense of joy and engagement in meaningful and important work at all levels.
